Finesse is a Holsteiner mare with bloodlines that combine some of the most influential Holsteiner lines imported into Australia.
Her sire, Barrabadeen Fortune, was successfully campaigned by his owner Marjorie Radford in dressage, he also evented a few times. He was a true all purpose stallion and has been instrumental in producing some good broodmares that form the foundation of many a stud. Fortune was exported to the USA where he was campaigned by a 14 year old in all 3 disciplines to the highest levels. He was a stallion with a super temperament. The strength from this line comes from his dam Fama who is by Farnese, a stallion hugely valued still today for his super paces, especially his big floating powerful trot. Finesse carries a double cross to this influential stallion as her dam Fuerstin Faustina's sire is Falkland who is also by Farnese.
Finesse, with such a dominant dam line, has produced super sport horses for DvZ Stud, with a wide variety of stallions, such as:
DvZ Fabergé (1998 - by Rebel I Z) owned by Anna McGregor, 2009 TEKNA leaderboard winner, D & C-grade state champions and numerous other championships. Now competing at world cup level.
DvZ Faroche (1999 - by VDL Laroche) was campaigned by Susan Page and is the most successful dressage mare in WA. Faroche was the 2003, 2004 and 2005 WA Young Dressage Horse Champion, she was 6th nationally at the 2005 DJWTS. She was the EFA Elementary horse of the Year, she was the Novice, Elementary and Medium State Champion, the latter in 2006 and 2007. She is now at the stud as a broodmare and expecting a foal by Soprano (Sandro Hit)
DvZ Infini (2000 - by Indoctro) was a stallion for a few years and we kept a daughters as a broodmare, DvZ Astra. Infini is now co-owned by Clare and Glen McLaren.
DvZ Funtimes (2001 - by Goodtimes) owned by Jasmin Watkins of Albany, Funtimes is bred to jump.
DvZ Fanfare (2002 - by Krack C) owned by Jacqui Lancaster, and are a serious dressage combination.
DvZ Fruehling (2004 - by Soprano) campaigned by Terrina Fairbrother. On her first outing she was the Summer Solstice Prelim Champion.
DvZ Fantasia (2006 -by Mayfield Pzazz) owned by Denise Barker and aimed at dressage.
DvZ Trés Bien (2009 - by AEA Tuschinski) a lovely 'look at me' colt, super for dressage for the serious competitor.
DvZ Flair (2010 - by AEA Tuschinski) full sister to DvZ Trés Bien. Elegant dark brown filly, dressage.
Finesse is in foal to Heidi Emery's Skywalker, due November 2011
Finesse has the nicest temperament. All her offspring are sensitive intelligent horses who are for the more experienced competitors/riders. |

Desiree was bred by the stud out of the wonderful big type Thoroughbred mare Dancing Ash who was a Maitre De Danse x Jungle Boy. Both thoroughbred stallions have produced many a successful sport horses in jumping and eventing. On Desiree's sire side is the Dutch bred DUTCHMAN who was imported and owned by AEA Burong stud in Victoria. Dutchman himself is part French part Dutch bloodlines, a mix that works extremely well in producing trainable sport horses.
Desiree has been a super broodmare for us with both our own stallions and frozen semen. All her foals are maturing quite tall. Desiree herself is 17 hands and most of her offspring are similar in height. Desiree has a beautiful temperament and the thoroughbred lines make her suitable to breed horses for eventing. Her full brother is DvZ Debonaire who with Rebecca Thomas has been very successful in eventing.
She produced the following horses:
DvZ Dixi (2002 - by DvZ Fuerst Figaro) owned by Poppy Law in NSW for dressage
DvZ Fidelio (2003 - by DvZ Figaro) a colt now deceased was owned by Goodwill Park
DvZ Destiny (2004 - by DvZ Infini) owned by Sophie Tedeschi and campaigned in jumping/eventing
DvZ Defira (2006 by DvZ Figaro) filly owned by Poppy Law in NSW for dressage
DvZ Chevalier (2007- by Chico's Boy) owned by Emma King for eventing/jumping
DvZ Cicero (2008 - by Chicago Z) owned by Clare Poole of Tasmania for dressage/pleasure
DvZ Querinda (2009 - by Quasimodo Z) retained by the stud to add to our broodmare herd in a few years.
Died 17 - 10 - 2011 just days of foaling. Her daughter DvZ Querinda will continue her mothers line from 2012. |

On bloodlines DvZ Faroche makes a most unlikely dressage horse, yet her achievements paint a different, rather illustrious story. Her sire is VDL Laroche a jumping stallion by Concorde out of a Nimmerdor mare. He carries that bit of french breeding that goes so well with Dutch and Holsteiner lines. But also on his dam side he has the Trakehner dressage stallion Marco Polo who changed the face of dressage in The Netherlands in his days (60's-70's).
Faroche has the most amazing paces, so balanced and rhythmic that Mr Harry Boldt commented that she is "born for dressage". Co-owner during her competition career was Susan Page, and together they formed a partnership that was almost unbeatable in Western Australia.
Here are their major achievements:
They were the 2003, 2004 and 2005 Young Dressage Horse Champions and in 2005 at DJWTS in Werribee they were 6th Nationally. They were also in successive years the Novice, Elementary and Medium State Champions, plus the EFA Elementary Horse of the Year. There were numerous other championships.
After Faroche's last Medium State Championships in 2007 we decided to retire her. It was a difficult decision but the higher level work, and she was training at Prix St George level, her enormous height (18 hh) and weight (800 kilos) began to nag her.
Faroche is now back in the stud's full ownership and we put her in foal to Soprano (Sandro Hit x Contender) in 2008, unfortunately she gave birth to a still born colt. However she is now in foal again to Soprano which is due mid november 2010.
Most horse people have heard of MOORLANDS TOTILAS the dressage phenomenon ridden by Edward Gal, breaking all records. This year (2010) he is standing at stud for the first time to limited carefully selected mares and frozen semen only. Breeders had to apply with the mare's credentials. DvZ Stud put forward DvZ Faroche back in February and we were utterly delighted when we received the email informing us that DvZ Faroche has been selected. Considering that over 350 applications had been received and only some 125 mares selected world wide (12 in the UK, 4 in Canada, 5 in the USA ....) we feel extremely privileged and proud. Proud as Faroche is a 'home' bred mare and is the result of 3 generations of my breeding philosophy. To say that being approved to use Moorlands Totilas is like winning lotto for the serious dedicated breeder, is an understatement.
We will keep you informed!
DvZ Fanya (2010 - by Soprano) for the taller rider as Fanya will mature 17+. Dressage Faroche is not in foal with Totilas as planned, but will be AI'd with him spring 2011. |
DvZ TENACITY (1994)

Tenacity (registered AWHA as Whispering Pines Brazil) is by one of the first Grand Prix dressage stallions of WA: Grand Espoir who was successfully campaigned by Roz Tipett. Tenacity is a very nicely conformed mare standing 16.1 hands. She has a beautiful topline that she passes on to all her progeny regardless of the stallion used. Grand Espoir goes back to the Hannovarian super sire Gotthard who has been of enormous influence in producing international showjumpers. Grand Espoir's dam goes back to Bogan Road who is by Wilkes who sired Vain who was the sire of the highly important (for sport horse breeders) Brilliant Invader.
On Tenacity's dam side we have some very notable Thoroughbred stallions such as Noble Commander and Bandmaster.
With such influential thoroughbred breeding combined with a dash of warmblood, Tenacity is ideal to breed all purpose sport horses suitable for any discipline. |

DvZ Tarantella (2006) by DvZ Fuerst Figaro, owned by Julie Howe for a promising dressage career
DvZ Parzival (2007) by Mayfield Pzazz, owned by Mia Harris as an all purpose horse
DvZ Terika (2008) by Cooperit imp., here on the farm, bred all purpose. SOLD
DvZ Tiffany (2010 - Capone) , very elegant long legged bright bay filly - all purpose |
DvZ FUERSTIN FLEUR (1995)

Fleur is the full sister of DvZ Fuerstin Finesse. Fleur was sold as a rising 2 yr old and after several owners who used her as a broodmare, I bought her back in 2006.
Fleur is of a more bigger build than her sister, but those big mares are ideal broodmares as you can use a wide variety of stallions without loosing bone.
She has just as a wonderful tractable temperament as her sister and she is a delight to have in the herd.

Jewel is aptly named, as she was from a foal a 'jewel' of a horse, such is the quality in her bloodlines and type.
Her dam Yetar Springs Jardina was leased from her owner Marianne Nisich, who very generously parted with her for me to use her valuable bloodlines. Jewel is by a stallion I bred, DvZ Goodwill, who is by the KWPN all-purpose stallion Goodtimes (Nimmerdor x Caletto I). Goodwill is out of Barrabadeen Astral, the grand daughter of the legendary matriarch Fama (Farnese). Jewel therefore combines some of the best bloodlines from Europe and imported stallions.
Jewel is athletic, shows ample jumping ability free jumping, and maturing close to 16.3 - 17 hands. Her lovely markings and rich bay colour make her a striking horse who always gets noticed.
February 2011 broken in by Adam Sutton (www.adamsutton.com.au) and Jewel is now in training with Fredi Fitzi.

Astra is by DvZ Infini (Indoctro) who is now a gelding and campaigned and co-owned by Clare and Glen McLaren. Astra's dam, Barrabadeen Astral, was purchased in foal as a 16 year old. After three colt foals (DvZ Chirac; DvZ Icarex and DvZ Goodwill) she finally gave me the filly I wanted with Infini (a stallion I bred) and I hoped on bloodlines, would give me a really interesting future broodmare.
Mares are the most important part of any stud and in Astra's case she comes from a very good female line via her great grand dam Fama who is also on her sire side. Fama comes from the holsteiner stallion Farnese, who in his days was named the stallion of the century in Hosteiner breeding. He had superior paces, was very athletic and had a very trainable temperament, albeit a little spooky. Farnese was especially famous for producing excellent broodmares. In the imported mare Fama he certainly had it right. She was the matriarch of Barrabadeen stud in Gidgegannup. She produced several excellent daughters (Fairness, First, Astrid) and 3 stallions: BBD Troubadour, BBD Fortune and BBD Wild Flame.
I have used line-breeding in several of my horses and Astra is a prime example of line-breeding to a superior female. (note: line breeding is NOT inbreeding which is mother x son or sister x brother etc.) Often with line-breeding it is done with a stallion, which is rather easy to do (i.e. several times Cor de la Bryere as he was used so often it is almost hard to find a holsteiner without him in its lines!) Much more difficult is line-breeding with a recurring female. I deliberately used Infini with BBD Astral as both go back to Fama. Astra inherited Fama's star....
Astra is athletic, has three good paces and appears to jump quite well. We only free jumped her twice so it is not fair to judge her on that.
DvZ Valdi (2009) by Val D'Isere VDL, bay gelding. Astra's first foal. Jumping DvZ Aster (2010) by Carpino Z, mahogany bay filly, bred to jump. Sold to Renae Walker.
Astra is in foal to Dutchman, due December 2011 |
