Dean is a 13.2h 12 year old Liver Chestnut Australian Riding Pony (also registered part Welsh) who has been my daughters pony for the past year and half. He is full of character and will often stand and lick you all over like a dog. Unfortunately due to starting High School my 12 year old is struggling with limited time as we live in the city and agist in the valley. She will now be forced to share a horse with her mother until she shows more commitment. Dean was successfully shown in the Hunter Ring by his previous owner and qualified for Nationals however we have mainly attended pony club with him since then and of course Covid limited competitions last year. He is well behaved when out and our first competition had a howling wind and he didn’t put a foot wrong with no warm up.
Dean would be best suited to a confident second ridden as he needs someone with a balanced seat and soft hands. He is not a beginners horse and I will not sell him to one. He is sensitive and takes cues from his rider but also is an intelligent pony that will try and get away with things if he is allowed to, however is always ridden in a snaffle. He was at times too clever for my daughter as she is a nervous rider so he would thrive with a confident child or teen that can remind him who’s boss. When ridden by a confident rider is beautifully behaved. He has three beautiful pace and is happy riding out with others or on his own and isn’t spooky. He can be paddocked with others or on his own and gets along with all other horses. Obviously being a pony he can be a little pushy around food when others are around if he’s hungry. If there is grass though he often won’t even come to his hard feed and will happily stand tied up sharing a hay net with others. He does well on just hay but gets a small hard feed to get vitamins into him. He is good for the farrier and is barefoot with good feet. He has recently had his teeth done which were in excellent condition and is super easy to worm and has no history of laminitis so can be turned out for a spell with no issues.
Dean has been having a little break while my daughters got through the first couple of weeks of high school but will be brought back into work over the next week as he is unfit with a nice tummy. Dean is good with dogs, sheep, birds, peacocks all of which wander around his feet on a regular basis. He will come with his bridle, and happy to negotiate his collection of rugs which are all in either brand new or excellent condition. These include a Weatherbeeta winter combo, brand new Caribou combo rainsheet and Weatherbeeta body rug, Weatherbeeta Woollen rug, Fleece rug and cotton combo as we won’t be needing pony gear moving forward.
This is a sad sale much earlier than we anticipated and he will only be sold to the very best of homes with no trials for his safety. You are welcome to ride at our beautiful agistment centre though in Caversham which includes arena’s and trails as my daughter loves this little pony and we will be particular about who he goes to. He is sound and vet checks are welcome. Will take Current Video on the weekend.
