Shamus, ‘Shame n Scandal’.
Shamus is an 8 year old, 16.1hh, Chestnut thoroughbred gelding.
I’ve had shamus since he retired as a four year old and have done all the basics myself.
He is currently competing at novice level dressage with many wins and placings under his belt. Shamus has above average movement and is established in his lateral work. He has a big ground covering, uphill canter.
Shamus is scopey, athletic and powerful. Rarely has rails in training & competition. A very careful type and sharp type. He is confidently jumping around 90-1m courses with no issues. With more consistent work and outings he could easily be jumping around bigger tracks within a few months. Perfect for a confident junior wanting to step up onto a bigger horse.
Shamus has been cross country training a few times and with more consistent training and exposure to this phase I believe he could be a very nice eventer. Please keep in mind he is very careful, so will need a forward and experienced rider to help him gain confidence in this area
He has a ground covering gallop and is ridden in a snaffle in all phases.
Please note he is still green at times as he is an OTTB. This isn’t a push button, school master. But he is very genuine and always puts his best hoof forward. Not for beginners or those who are nervous.
Shamus requires a firm but soft rider who is confident and competent.
Shamus has enough talent, scope and movement to make a nice horse for a competent young rider or adult to pursue.
Shamus was in a fencing accident when on spell when he first retired (4 year old). Please note this has never affected his soundness. He has superficial scarring over his back leg (didn’t require any vet work), all has healed nicely and can’t really be noticed under his coat (happy to discuss this further when he’s being viewed).
Shamus is easy to shoe, float, rug etc and doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. He is easy for me to take out on his own.
I simply don’t have the time to ride and compete at the moment and as much as I’d like to keep him as a paddock puff I just can’t justify the expense of agistment etc.
