Willow is a six year old thoroughbred mare standing around 16.1-2hh. She is a big framed mare with a quiet and sensible disposition. She is green but eager to learn.
I bought Willow in August of 2016 with the intention of taking her through the eventing grades. She was vet checked at Valley Equine Centre and given the all clear and a handful of compliments on her physique in October 2016. I spent three months from August to October doing ground work with Willow who took it all in her stride and enjoyed the regular training.
I was offered a job outside of Perth at the end of October and unfortunately could not bring Willow. Since October 2016 Willow has been located in Herne Hill and looked after by my mother in her mid 60s who feeds, brushes, catches and trims Willow. This is a testament to her nature. I advertised Willow once last year but withdrew her when I thought I might have the chance to bring her down with me – this did not go ahead and consequently she remained in Perth.
Waiting around is not fair on Willow and I have come to the decision to advertise her again. She had her last race in April 2015, three years ago so has had a huge let down and is ready to go on with. She will need retraining under saddle as she has not been ridden during this whole let down period. I would love to see her continue as a ridden horse but I have been told that she would also make an excellent broodmare with her correct confirmation and good breeding lines.
Willow is an excellent candidate for a knowledgeable and confident rider to take on. She is not your typical mare and we have never noticed her in season so isn’t the moody or distractible type. She is easy going, easy to catch and handle, etc. While she isn’t a bad floater, she doesn’t have experience with floats, only trucks. She has been on a float once for her vet check, she was unsure but quiet and willing.
Her lack of education and experience with floating, and time out of the saddle are reflected in her price. Otherwise she is a big and powerful mare with a great attitude who was complimented on her potential to go past pre-novice eventing judging by her physique.
