Peel ODE 21st August 2011

Peel Metropoliton Horse and Pony Club held its annual One Day Event on Sunday the 21st August. With over 90 competitors this year (and entries having to close 3 weeks early), the discipline of eventing once again has proved to be very popular.

This year, the Peel ODE attracted the sponsership of, with the funds being used to build 3 new portable roll-top jumps for the cross country phase. The jumps were kindly constructed by Bill Evans (dedicated club member) who was thrilled with the result of these, with horses and riders meeting these new obstacles confidently. Some clever use of decorations around the course made other jumps somewhat of a challenge - not all horses were expecting pink pigs to be roaming the bush!

The four new dressage arenas, recently purchased by Peel and Kelmscott pony clubs, looked very professional and thankfully withstood the increasingly windy conditions on the day. Warm up space was at a premium due to the club grounds' area size, and all of the competitors were most patient as the marshalls kept events in order.

In 2010, Peel was very fortunate to have an entire showjumping course (wings and rails) constructed and painted by Trevor Harman (club member), which looked splendid on the day and certainly captured the interest of both horses and riders with their vibrant colours and professional appearance.

As the last horse finished the final phase, the rain finally set in and the clubrooms were bustling with people, eagerly awaiting the all important results of the day. Budget Stockfeeds proudly donated prizes, with a big bag of feed granted to the winners of each class.

A One Day Event is a huge undertaking for a small club, but the rewards are great - not only at a personal or club level, but also for the wider equestrian community.

Congratulations to all riders
