Description
Des is a lovely, competitive, horse with a wonderful nature and is a pleasure to work with on a daily basis. He displays a calm attitude at home and when out and about. Des is a pleasure to camp with. He doesn’t require long warmups for the dressage and showjumping phases, neither does he require this for the cross country, although he is much more lively when preparing for this phase. Des is bold and seems to enjoy the canter out on course.
2024 was Desmond’s first year in training and competing since being retired from racing as a 7 year old. He came to me when I had no time for an extra horse, so he lived the retired life in my paddock for these years. I brought him in occasionally over this time, when I was able. Des competed in 6 events last year at the 65cm and 80cm levels. He placed in most of these and won his last event at Wooroloo OTT 80cm. This year Des has placed 4th at Brigadoon, 6th at Murray and 2nd at Serpentine in the 80cm classes.
Des will be suitable for a confident rider wanting an enjoyable horse to ride in the lower grades of eventing. His flatwork and jumping are steadily improving as he gains more education and strength in these areas. With correct training and further exposure I believe Des will make a reliable and fun horse in the future. He is only available to a confident and knowledgeable home familiar with the reeducation of off the track thoroughbreds. Des is not suitable for nervous or beginner riders.
Des is currently in work and up to date with shoeing, worming and dental. He has his OTT passport. Videos available upon request. Vet checks welcome.
