Gelding, 12 years old, approx 16hh.
He is a very good do'er and in excellent health. I have too many horses at
the moment and I need to spend more time with my young green mare.
This horse needs regular work by an experienced and confident rider,
someone who loves training horses and being the leader that he needs.
His temperament is generally laid back and relaxed and he forms a good
bond with a regular handler and prefers human company over other
horses. He is very aloof with other horses and doesn't like them
close. While not aggressive towards them he will spend a lot of time
chasing them away so not suitable as a companion horse for other shy
timid types.
His ground manners are great and he is excellent for the farrier and good
at float loading.
This horse would be suitable for trail riding or endurance and would excel
at obstacles.
He has been exposed to cattle, sheep, kangaroos, motorbikes and is very
tolerant of barking aggressive dogs.
He gets anxious when ridden with more than one or two other horses and gets
worked up if they get up ahead of him. This is where he needs the
most training. He will also kick at other horses when ridden if they
get too close.
He is a very handsome fellow and most people don't pick him as a
Standardbred. He is not a pacer but a trotter, so it stands to reason
that he has a very big bold fast trot but I have spent a lot of time
getting him to slow it down and he is learning quick. He also has a
great canter and can pop straight into it from a slow trot using word
commands on the lunge. This needs further work when ridden to keep
him focused and steady.
I am open to a months trial to the right person. He is located in
Ravensthorpe.
