Clayton Windswept

Affectionate bush riding mare

$6,500

Description

Purchased direct from Clayton Station 4 years ago, Flossie has grown into a solid, strong, low maintenance, affectionate mare standing at just 15H.  Flossie arrived in WA as an unhandled 4 y/o so I spent the first year gaining her trust, doing groundwork, familiarisation, desensitising and a Mark Langley clinic. She was then started by Neil Innes in March 2022. Since then we have done lots of bush riding, a couple of ridden clinics, a few Adult Riders and a local Show Horse competition where she behaved beautifully. Flossie is a comfortable ride and very forward at walk and trot, loving a new adventure out bush striding out faster than striding home. Her canter is super comfy but she's not done too much hooning with me! She's brave out bush, not spooky and will gladly lead a ride out or head out on her own, with me feeling safe despite being a nervous rider. She's confident and doesn't feed off other horses or get attached and happy at the front, back or middle of a ride. Flossie is not a fan of arena work or going over the same piece of ground too many times and as an opinionated mare, will let you know. Things can be worked  through by a confident rider, as I have done at times, but I am not the one to persist with this. I am missing my dressage and flatwork schooling and as I near my 60's, it's time for me to find a new partner that's happy both in the bush and the arena. I love this little horse to bits, who without fail, whinnies and trots to the gate every time, who will be wasted as a spare bush hack as she is so much fun to take out!  Flossie is barefoot but wears boots when out on gravel, is up to date with dental and now floats quite well. She's been rugged before but is mostly 'au naturale', living nicely in a herd of mares and a VERY easy keeper. As may be seen in pics, her front legs are indeed 'windswept'. She arrived like this from the Station and this has not affected her in any way, but she has never been put under consistent heavy work.  She deserves the right home, so please feel free to ask more about her.
