Description
I took on Graeme last November as i was getting back into riding. He is a sweet boy who excelled in regular lessons and riding out. I acquired Graeme from the off the track program, he had a history of ulcers and was sound when I took him. He was fully shod, but I eventually went barefoot with him, his feet are a bit of a jumble with one club foot but he can still move forward, regular trimming with a good farrier suits him but the choice of front shoes can be an option.I'm not an expert, but life got in the way and the consistency stopped, Graeme became Sour towards me and our relationship felt distant which made me feel terrible, I had him scoped and the ulcers were there. He was treated, but is still behaving slightly agressive when im around him in the paddock and at tea time, I've tried establishing boundaries but get nervous with his reactions during feeding. The chance of ulcers still being there is probable.
I'm torn, I feel awful, and want the best for him, i work in the mines and my time is limited, my other 2 horses are happy healthy loving and can be ridden anytime in the bush with no issues after resting in the paddocks. Graeme is fine to ride, but seems to be seeing me as someone who he associates with pain and discomfort, he won't come to me anymore and ignores me. I can work him fine in the round yard on the lunge and he knows what to do, but its when he's loose in paddock the temperament changes and i get very nearvous.
If someone is willing to take him on and build a new relationship with him and give him the best I wish I could have it would be amazing for him.
He will make the best partner for shows and I believe he could jump and do dressage.
Please, no hate or negativity but for him to sit in a paddock forever would be a waste.
Fine to ride, is girthy but once on during lessons or riding out with another horse he's good.
Please can someone help 😢
Have videos but don't know how to upload so can email them, photos are of when he was in regular lessons and happier. Up to date with teeth, feet and worming.
