Miss Maude is a much‑loved 14‑year‑old bay Off the Track Thoroughbred mare, standing at 15.2hh and retired fully sound. Purchased in 2023 from a riding school as the ideal first horse for our daughter, she has been a safe, reliable and cherished part of our family. With our teenager now unable to give her the time and attention she deserves, we have made the very difficult decision to find Maude a new, caring home where she can continue to thrive.
During her time with us, Maude has attended pony club, mixed training days, dressage competitions, including State-level, pony club camp, and various off‑property outings. She is easy to catch, float, shoe, worm and handle for the dentist, and she is fully up to date with all care. She is shod every six weeks on all four feet due to the rocky terrain on our property.
Maude has been an exceptional partner for a not‑so‑confident teen rider, always looking after her and remaining calm and dependable. She has a soft mouth, a quiet nature and a definite “more whoa than go” attitude. She is the type you can hop on bareback after a week off, and she won’t put a foot wrong. She has safely carried small children and grandparents and behaves beautifully off property—she may have a quick look around but settles quickly. Judges have commented on her potential in dressage, and with the right rider, she could continue to excel.
Jumping and cross‑country over 60cm have not been her favourite activities, which may be linked to our daughter’s lack of confidence in this area. A more confident rider may bring out more in her, but she is best suited to flatwork, dressage, pleasure riding and general all-around activities. She has no buck, bolt or rear, and no health issues.
Maude loves her food and can be protective at feeding time. She currently lives alone without separation anxiety, but she is very social and enjoys attention—she will happily nibble on anyone who offers scratches. She can show a bit of “marey” attitude when frustrated, but never in a nasty way. She is a sweet, affectionate mare who bonds deeply once she trusts you.
Because Maude is incredibly dear to us, we will be very selective about her new home. No time wasters, please. Price is slightly negotiable, but the home is not. A fitted Wintec saddle and additional gear are available for purchase. Located in Lower Chittering, WA.
