Mr Melon
This kid has character. The kind that builds character in the rider also. That’s definitely word play for “will humble you on the regular”.
Absolutely no beginners or inexperienced homes. Melon is a clever guy who has been fun to work and play with. This pony has been exposed to more than most (motorbikes, emus, sheep, dogs, kangaroos etc)
Unfortunately his rider is way too tall for him and centre of gravity and physics has her meeting the ground more often than necessary. For example I’m short and have never fallen off him when he changes direction in a split second due to a spook. I have thoroughly enjoyed riding this guy especially out on the trails.
He gains his confidence from his rider and therefore requires a confident rider who isn’t phased by his Arab attributes.
Positives: easy to float, catch, rug, loves the beach, getting into water. Loves a trail ride and isn’t fussy with his companions. You can take him to pony club with a friend and separate them no issues.
Ties up to the float all day at pony club. Great hooves, barefoot in the hills with no trouble.
Respectful of fences and paddocks well alone or with others. Currently paddocked with an emu.
Has been to the beach, pony club, shows, camping, school pick up, to the pub, cafe and many trails. With three lovely paces, he has a floaty trot, rocking horse canter and soft mouth. He is not forward, his preference is to walk his way through anything presented. This is likely due to his confidence as he’s forward at home but not out and about.
Has shown great scope and ability with show jumping in his previous home (I’m told). He feels safe and fun out on the trails and happy up front or in the back.
Getting better for the farrier, will sometimes get anxious with males, but never enough to be particularly unpleasant. Will be great one day for them and then surprise them the next- go figure. Happy to have his feet picked up by kids and little riders all day long.
His quirks are what makes you smile. He will pick things up, hold his companions reins or your boots. He is surprisingly cowy and loves a job. He will lock onto a sheep or dog and chase it wherever you need it gone. I can see him being a great farm hack or games pony.
Melon shuffles when being tacked up and although he’s had plenty of hours of wisdom tree and tie up hours he will still dance his way through solitude. In saying this he is always hard tied and all of his performances are just that. He has never been dangerous or pulled back etc.
He’s an easy keeper with hay roll and a basic pony cubes/chaff when in work.
His perfect home would be a confident and competent young adult or teen. Pony club, adult riders or regular lessons to continue to establish his confidence as he grows. A trail riding home or farm would be an even better fit.
Price is indicative of the work put into him and the current market. He will continue to stay in work until sold.
Located Kelmscott hills. No trials.
