The meachnical cow is a fantastic training tool. It’s a
remote controlled miniature cow that moves and turns at variable speed
along the arena fence (40 meters). It’s great for teaching horses to
focus and follow and it helps spooky horses become more confident about
novel objects and sudden movements.
We introduce horses to Betty in a calm and steady way from the ground with experienced horses leading the way to build confidence. Once your horse is comfortable watching and following the cow at the walk, you can start having some fun with stops and roll-backs (turns) at speed.
The Garrocha, is a long pole that is traditionally used
by the Doma Vaquera (Spanish Riders) who have developed it into an art
form. Riding with the Garrocha is useful for improving horsemanship
skills and improve the harmony between horse and rider.
We start off with your horse following the Garrocha being held by an expereinced rider. Once your horse is comfortable with the pole, you start at the walk carrying and dragging the pole. From there you build your skills
working in circles and mastering forequarter and hindquarter turns under
the pole!
The Garrocha is a great tool for perfecting your 20
meter circles, learning one-handed riding (which means having to use
more of your seat and legs!) and helping your horse become more
confident doing different things.
Ridden places are limited to ensure plenty of one on one time with students so book in early if you would like to join us.
The day commences at 9.00 am and finishes at 4.00 pm. Participants will
be split into groups and there will also be opportunity to work
one-on-one with Andrew.
Spectators are welcome (no charge).
