Description
Merlin, affectionately known as Panda, is a beautiful big Thoroughbred gelding looking for an experienced home to continue his education.
I have owned Merlin since April 2025 and during that time have deliberately taken things slowly, allowing him plenty of time to let down from racing, mature and fill out, rather than rushing him into another career.
He has had approximately 10 months of professional retraining, generally working twice per week, with a substantial spell in between. He is now back in work and continuing his education.
Merlin is a sensitive, intelligent horse who responds extremely well to a calm, confident rider and handler. His retraining has focused heavily on relaxation, trust, connection and establishing good foundations.
When that connection is established, he moves beautifully and shows lovely natural movement, presence and athleticism.
On the ground, Merlin is an extremely sweet and affectionate horse. He enjoys being around people, does not nip or bite and genuinely wants to connect with his person.
Prior to coming to us, Merlin had some exposure to showjumping outings, training days and pine rides. We have chosen not to jump him and instead concentrated on calmly and correctly restarting him and establishing his flatwork.
Merlin is being sold as a project horse. He is not suitable for a beginner or inexperienced rider and requires someone 18+ confident, patient and experienced who will continue his education without rushing him.
For the right person, he has the ingredients to develop into a seriously lovely horse. His size, movement and presence could lend themselves to dressage, jumping, eventing or a quality adult all-rounder as his education progresses.
